WSTK1000: The Championship is still open.
In this weekend the WSBK main competitions were held in the Portuguese Circuit of Portimao, a very popular track for its distinct “up and down” between turns.
Since the first Free Practice sessions both Berclaz Racing riders Roberto Tamburini and Luca Salvadori were fast, staying always inside the top ten. On Saturday, Roberto Tamburini was able to get the first row with the fantastic time of 1’44.287 that put him in 3rd position. Close to the first riders also Salvadori who got the 6th position.
“Tambu” started very well in te race the day after and maintained his position for the whole first lap. Tamburini could then overtake Reiterberger , improve his pace lap after lap, catch up with the first rider and finally lead the race until the end, winning his first competition of the season. His teammate Salvadori lost two positions in the first meters but with a great first corner he recovered what lost. Unfortunately Portimao is a very physical Circuit and in the second half of the race Salvadori’s forearm was completely blocked and he finished 7th.
Thanks to this victory Tamburini reduced the gap from the leader Reiterberger (-18 points) while Salvadori close the top ten. With one race still to go all can happened.
The next race will be in the French Circuit of Magny Cours on the 30th September.
